Chief E.J. Hoyt was sworn in as the Newington Fire Department’s Chief on Nov. 20, 2019, with more than 25 years of experience in fire service. Chief Hoyt joined the Department in September 2018 as Assistant Chief, and became the Department’s Interim Chief on August 23, 2019.
For 17 years, Chief Hoyt served as a Lieutenant and AEMT for Dover Fire and Rescue, and also worked at the Myrtle Beach, South Carolina Fire Department for more than three years. He began his firefighting career at the Newington Fire Department as a call firefighter, EMT and driver/operator from 1993-1998.
Chief Hoyt additionally served in the U.S. Navy with the Seabee’s Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 27 as an equipment operator from 1991-1999.
He is an NREMT– Advanced Emergency Medical Technician; State Certified Fire Instructor I, II and III; Fire Officer I and II; Fire Fighter I and II; Fire Inspector I and II; Hazardous Materials Operations and Technician Level, trained in NIMS Incident Command System 100, 200, 300, 400, 700 and 800; and holds a New Hampshire CDL Driver's License with air brakes and tank endorsement.
